There is a strange tendency to associate being constantly busy with being productive. Emails continue into the evening, weekends become additional working days and taking several days away can begin to feel irresponsible.

But humans are not machines. Working continuously can make it harder to recognise exhaustion because being tired gradually becomes normal.

A vacation interrupts that pattern. Leaving the usual environment can create psychological distance from deadlines, meetings and everyday responsibilities. Travel can also expose you to different places, people and ways of thinking.

The benefit is not necessarily doing nothing. Someone might spend their vacation exploring another country, visiting family, hiking, swimming or simply sleeping properly. What matters is temporarily breaking the routine.

This can be particularly important for entrepreneurs and professionals whose minds rarely completely leave work. Sometimes the solution to a difficult problem does not appear while staring at the problem for another six hours.

Rest is not the opposite of ambition. Used properly, it is part of sustaining it.
