Citizen TV journalist Trevor Ombija has thrown his support behind President William Ruto’s Tutam political movement as political activity gathers pace ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Ombija, who is seeking to become the next Member of Parliament for Nyakach Constituency in Kisumu County, said he was joining the movement because of what he described as visible development under Ruto’s administration.
His declaration comes as Ruto intensifies his political and development activities in the Nyanza region, traditionally considered an opposition stronghold. The President is currently on a four-day tour covering Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori counties, where projects valued at more than Sh220 billion are in various stages of implementation.
Ombija pointed to infrastructure development, including roads and other government projects, while arguing that the President should be given another opportunity to continue implementing his agenda.
The Tutam movement is positioning itself around Ruto’s development record and his bid for re-election in 2027. Its platform highlights programmes including affordable housing, healthcare, roads, markets and schools while mobilising supporters and political aspirants.
Ombija’s entry into the movement is also significant because of his transition from journalism into elective politics. He had previously confirmed plans to contest the Nyakach parliamentary seat, currently held by Aduma Owuor.
His endorsement adds another prominent name to the emerging Tutam campaign as Ruto seeks to expand his political support in Nyanza ahead of the next election.
