Meta is rolling out a new update for its AI glasses that adds pedestrian navigation, allowing users to receive walking directions without constantly checking their smartphones.

With the version 28 update, users can ask Meta AI to navigate to a nearby destination using a voice command. The glasses can then provide hands-free guidance while the wearer continues walking. For destinations requiring a longer journey, driving directions can instead be sent to the user's connected smartphone.

Users can also start a journey from their phone. After finding a destination through a compatible mapping application, they can use the Share option and select Meta AI to begin navigation through their connected glasses.

Walking directions are available in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada, as well as selected cities in other parts of the world.

Audio is receiving an upgrade too. Meta has introduced Spatial Audio, which creates a more immersive listening experience for stereo content such as music and podcasts. The feature is available on supported devices, including Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 Optics and other products in the Meta Glasses collection.

The update also expands support for Mandarin Chinese across several functions. Users can access the language for Meta AI, calls and messaging, device controls, media capture and music controls.

Privacy remains another focus. Version 28 includes additional anti-tampering improvements designed to protect the cameras on Meta's glasses, continuing the company's recent efforts to prevent users from circumventing visible recording protections.

The additions demonstrate Meta's broader effort to turn smart glasses into practical everyday computing devices rather than accessories primarily used for taking photos, recording videos or interacting with an AI assistant.

Navigation could be particularly important to that transition. Receiving directions through glasses reduces the need to repeatedly pull out a smartphone while walking, bringing Meta closer to its vision of AI-powered eyewear that can assist users throughout the day.
