We live in one of the most absurd eras of human existence, a time where our exposure to technology has somehow created a disconnect from reality.

With social media and AI becoming deeply embedded in our lives, it feels like we’re slowly losing some of the fundamentals of being human: genuine interaction, real conversations, physical presence, and the kind of connection where two people can meet without immediately wondering what they can get from each other.

And then there’s sex.

Somehow, sex has become almost impossible to escape. It’s in our feeds, advertisements, music, movies, memes, and even the two-second ads that suddenly interrupt whatever you were watching. You didn’t search for it. You didn’t ask for it. Yet somehow, it found you.

I’ve often wondered why men seem to be such an obvious target for this kind of marketing. Is it simply because men are considered more visually responsive to sexual imagery? Or have we created an environment where companies have learned that cheap desire is one of the easiest ways to capture attention?

Movies haven’t exactly helped either.

More and more, sexual content gets squeezed into scenes where it sometimes feels completely unnecessary. What happened to having actual storylines that could hold our attention?

I understand that we live in an attention economy, where every production is competing for our eyes and clicks. But sex should be the icing on the cake, not the entire cake. Yet increasingly, it feels like sexual content has become the centrepiece of many productions, sometimes overshadowing the very story we came to watch.

And it doesn't stop with movies.

Even some of the video games many of us grew up playing like GTA and others, have incorporated sexual themes and imagery into the experience.

Did genuine Interaction fade into the unknown?

As someone who’s fond of kind gestures, I consider compliments one of them. Even better when I’m the one giving them.

But honestly, sometimes it’s scary especially when the opposite gender is involved. Something as simple and genuine as a compliment can easily be interpreted as having an agenda.

A friend encounter

And it goes both ways. A few days ago, I was talking to a good friend of mine who shared an interesting encounter. On his way home, he met this lady on a train he normally uses. She approached him, seemingly wanting to start a conversation, but the way she went about it threw him off. Before much of a conversation could even happen, she asked for his number.

Maybe she was simply trying to step outside her comfort zone and approach someone completely new. Maybe she was genuinely interested in getting to know him. Or maybe, as my friend suspected, there was something else behind it. We'll probably never know.

But it made me think about how complicated ordinary human interaction has become. Sometimes I wonder what human interaction will look like a decade from now.

I don't intend to be a prophet of doom, but if we continue becoming more suspicious, disconnected and transactional with one another, I wonder how much of our natural desire to simply connect will remain.

If you ask me values and principles matter more than ever. As Malcolm X famously said, “A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything.”

Whatever you stand for, know it. Live by it. Hold onto it. Never let the hedonic desires of this world sway you, you got this!
